Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation of malodor and amino acids in saliva. The author measured primarily volatile sulfur compound(VSC) of the dental students who understand this study as volunteer by using Halimeter. According to the value of VSC, the students were classified into malodor(>150ppb) group or non-malodor(≶100ppb) group. The each group consisted of 10 subjects. The organoleptic oral malodor and organoleptic saliva malodor of all subjects were measured. Also the amino acids in saliva of all subjects were analyzed by using High Performance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC).
The obtained results were as follow:
1. The organoleptic oral malodor score of group with high VSC value was higher than that with low value of VSC (p≶0.01).
2. There was significant correlation between organoleptic oral malodor and organoleptic saliva malodor(p≶0.05).
3. There was no significant correlation between the value of VSC and the amount of amino acids of saliva.
4. L-Methionine ,md L-Lysine in saliva were significantly increased as organoleptic oral malodor score got higher(p≶0.01).
5. L-Alanine, L-Cystine, L-Valine. L-Methionine and L-Lysine in saliva were significantly increased as organoleptic saliva malodor score got higher(p≶0.05).
